The most important rule after a 60 Minute Single Session is simple: keep moving gently and hydrate, even if you feel a little sore. Our instructors are known for being friendly and proactive with modifications, so your aftercare starts with the same idea: listen to your body and keep things smart. In Chicago, that usually means extra fluids in summer humidity and a longer warm-up when those lake winds hit in winter.
0 to 48 hours after your private session: the do’s and don’ts we actually care about
Quick 60-minute session recovery checklist: water first, a 5 to 10 minute easy walk, light mobility, then let the work settle in.
In the first hour
- Rehydrate right away. A good goal is a full glass of water before you jump back into your day.
- Walk 5 to 10 minutes. If you’re heading out to run errands around the Southport Corridor or strolling through Lincoln Park, keep it easy. You’re telling your nervous system, “We’re good.”
- Do the cooldown we gave you. Stick with the breathing, gentle spine mobility, and any “homework” your therapist coached in session.
For the next 24 to 48 hours
We generally recommend you keep intensity low for a day or two. This is especially true if we challenged you and then made adjustments so you could finish strong, which is exactly how our one-on-one sessions are supposed to feel.
- Skip heavy lifting and all-out cardio for 24 to 48 hours, especially if you feel that “worked in a good way” soreness.
- Avoid hot tubs, saunas, and super-hot baths for at least 24 hours. Heat can feel amazing, but too much too soon tends to flare tender spots and dehydration.
- Don’t book deep tissue work on sore areas for 24 to 48 hours. Let your tissues recover first.
- Prioritize sleep. This is where your body does the building.
If it’s July in Chicago and you’re walking out into humidity, add electrolytes. If it’s January and your shoulders feel glued up from the cold, do a longer gentle warm-up before you sit at your desk.
The first week: keep the progress without stacking soreness
The point of a personalized 60-minute session is in-depth guidance and better form, not crushing you and hoping for the best. People tell us they love that we help with modifications and make sessions beginner-friendly, so your week after should follow that same vibe.
What to keep doing
- Gentle movement daily. Walking, easy cycling, and light mobility usually feel great.
- Repeat the 2 to 3 key cues we worked on. If we focused on ribs down, pelvic control, or shoulder placement, practice that in small moments.
- Short, consistent stretching. Think 2 to 5 minutes at a time, not a 45-minute stretch marathon.
What to avoid (for now)
- “Proving it” workouts the day after. That’s when we see cranky hips, low backs, and shoulders.
- Doubling up on intense core work if your abs are already talking to you.
- Long static holds on irritated joints. If it pinches, back off and let us know next time.
Sore in a good way vs. sharp pain: ice, heat, and how to tell the difference
It’s normal to feel delayed-onset muscle soreness 24 to 48 hours after a session, especially if you’re newer to Pilates or getting back into movement after time off. We hear this a lot, and many people describe it as “so sore the next day (in a great way).”
Use ice for sharper, more “tender” spots
If one area feels acute or irritated, ice is usually the move. Try 10 to 15 minutes, then off. You can repeat every 1 to 2 hours on day one if needed.
Use light heat for stiffness, usually after 48 hours
If you’re just feeling tight, gentle heat tends to help more once you’re past that first 48-hour window. Keep it light and short, and pair it with easy mobility.
Red flags are things like sharp pain that doesn’t calm down, swelling, numbness, or pain that changes your gait. If that’s you, pause workouts and reach out so we can help you figure out the next right step.
Habits that protect your result: protein, hydration, and a smarter warm-up in Chicago weather
After a private training session, your body does best with simple support. No fancy supplements required.
- Eat protein within 60 minutes. A protein-rich snack or meal helps recovery, especially if we did strength-focused work.
- Hydrate all day. If you’re in Lincoln Park, Lakeview, Old Town, North Center, Wicker Park, or Bucktown and walking a lot between stops, plan ahead. Carry water.
- Warm up longer in winter. Cold muscles don’t love being rushed. Give yourself an extra few minutes before your next workout or even before a long commute.
And yes, a hot shower is usually fine. Just keep it comfortable, not a long, dehydrating heat session right after you worked hard.
When to book your next 60 Minute Single Session (and when to text us first)
A lot of people come to us nervous about “fitting in, ” then realize our team is genuinely welcoming and quick to help you adjust. Keep that same energy after your session. If you’re unsure about a sensation, ask. We’d rather talk it through than have you push through the wrong thing.
A simple rebooking rule
For most people, 24 to 72 hours is a good window for a follow-up if you’re working on consistency or technique. If we went heavy on strength and you’re truly sore, give yourself a little more time. If you’re coming in from a busy week or a long shift, we’ll plan it in a way that supports you, not drains you.
Reach out sooner if you’ve got sharp pain, new tingling or numbness, or soreness that keeps getting worse after day two. Normal soreness feels achy and improves with gentle movement. The “not normal” stuff usually makes you guard, limp, or stop breathing well.
"Probably the most welcoming staff I have ever met!"

If you’re ready to keep momentum, we’ll set your next session plan around your goal and your recovery. And if you’re squeezing this into a packed Chicago schedule, we’ll keep it straightforward so you leave feeling clear, not confused.
